Automating Security: A Better Way to Handle Compromised Email Accounts

I'll be the first to admit when we can do better. For years, we've handled compromised email accounts in a way that, frankly, wasn't great for anyone. When we detected a compromised account, you'd have to wait. Wait for us to be available, wait for us to respond, wait for us to manually unlock your domain. It wasn't efficient, and it certainly wasn't respectful of your time.

We've fixed that.

What's Changed?

When our systems detect a compromised email account now, everything happens automatically:

  1. The affected email account is immediately suspended to prevent abuse
  2. You receive a support ticket with details about the security event, including relevant logs we've collected
  3. Most importantly: You get an immediate path to resolution through our new security portal

No more waiting for us to wake up, finish dinner, or get to your ticket. You're in control of the resolution timeline.

How It Works

The process is straightforward:

When we detect suspicious activity, we immediately suspend the compromised account and send you a ticket containing a unique security link. Visit that link to review the incident details and logs, then unlock your domain when you're ready to change the password.

The whole process takes minutes instead of hours or days. You don't need to convince us, explain anything, or wait for our availability. Just acknowledge the incident, agree to change the password, and you're back in business.

Why This Matters

Security incidents don't run on business hours. They don't care if we're sleeping or if it's a holiday. When an email account is compromised, every minute counts - both for your security and for preventing abuse of our infrastructure.

This automated system means:

  • Faster resolution times
  • Less frustration for you
  • Better security for everyone
  • No more timezone delays
  • No more waiting for support to be available

Being Better

We're not perfect. We make mistakes, we learn, and we try to be better. This new system isn't just about automation - it's about respecting your time and giving you more control over your service.

The old way of handling compromised accounts wasn't great. It was manual, slow, and frustrating for everyone involved. We knew we could do better, so we did.

Remember: security is a partnership. We provide the tools and infrastructure, but the strength of your passwords ultimately rests with you. Use strong, unique passwords. And if something goes wrong, we've got your back with systems in place to help you recover quickly.

Stay safe out there.
